What’s a better way to support two charities, exercise, and do something fun with your friends?! Run a 5k of course!

On Saturday, Delta Gamma and Phi Kappa Psi combined to host a 5k right on Butler’s campus. The 3.1 mile course started at DG and took runners through the campus, finally ending at Phi Psi. The race was in support of the SON Foundation and Service for Sight. More than 60 runners participated in the race, including first place winner Freshman Spencer Keating.

“With my running, I try to focus not just on myself but on doing it for other purposes. In the last year or so, I’ve realized that I’m running for God. It’s nice to use my gift of running to help support organizations like Service for Sight,” Keating said.

The SON Foundation is an organization that provides Christian housing to cancer patients and their families, according to sonfoundationindy.org. When patients are traveling and receiving treatment in other places, they have a home to stay in. Service for Sight is an organization that helps people who are blind or visually impaired. According to the Delta Gamma Foundation, children are able to learn specialized skills from volunteers and adults can receive personal help.

Many students gathered at the finish line and cheered in support of their friends. After the race was over, refreshments were served at Delta Gamma and there was a pumpkin pie eating contest.
